Harm Reduction
Harm reduction is a key part of our mission, both at the center and in our outreach work. We focus on meeting people where they are and giving them the tools and information to make safer choices. Our harm reduction efforts include providing syringe exchange services, handing out Narcan, and teaching safer ways to use substances and have safer sex. When we do outreach, our team connects with the community by giving out supplies and sharing helpful information to promote safer practices. By focusing on harm reduction, we want to reduce health risks, create a safer environment, and build trust with the people we help, supporting them on their journey to recovery.
Providing harm reduction services is only part of the mission of VoH. This aspect helps us to help individuals impacted with substance use disorder to stay alive to find recovery, as that individual defines recovery. Harm Reduction is part of the continuum of care for those with substance use disorders. These services allow us to engage directly with people who use drugs, address social determinates of health and the barriers to improving quality of life.
