Voices of Hope provides training and workshops for Peer Recovery Specialists and Community Health Workers. Many are written and developed by experienced professionals in recovery, family members and allies of the recovery movement. Training opportunities are also available for organizations to purchase for their staff, volunteers or local recovery community. Some may be offered at no cost to the organization or to the participants. Additionally, courses may be developed specifically for the needs of your organization. Voices of Hope offers the following Curriculum:

Advocacy for Peer Recovery Specialists (developed by the University of Maryland Training Center) – This 1-day (6 hour) online training reviews the traits, skills and methods for successful advocacy as Peers. Explores how self-determination and self-advocacy supports recovery and demonstrates advocacy at the personal, group and systems levels. (6 CEUs)

Continuum of Care (developed by Voices of Hope, Inc.) – this 1-day (3 hour) online training reviews the definition and importance of continuum of care, identifies how harm reduction fit in the continuum of care. (3 CEUs)

Covid Care (developed by Voices of Hope, Inc.) – this 1-day (3 hour) online training focuses on the impact of Covid on underserved communities and identifying access to resources in the community. (3 CEUs)

Digital Peer Support Certification (developed by Digital Peer Support) – this 1-day (4 hour) online training will enhance skills in using technology in providing support to other Peers, created as a response to COVID-19. (4 CEUs)

Ethical Considerations for Recovery Coaches (developed by Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery) – This 2-day online training helps coaches, and anyone else working in the peer role, to understand how critical it is to be ethically responsible.  Using presentations, small group work, and role play  to address many areas including: defining the coaching service role and functions, coaching standards, issues of vulnerability, ethical decision making, performance enhancement and legal issues. (16 CEUs)

Ethics 2.0 (developed by Voices of Hope, Inc.) – This 2-day (6 hour) online training will help coaches, peers and community health workers to take a deeper dive into how to be ethically responsible. Using presentations, video and group work to address: identifying the ethical principles, ethical culture and humility, peer drift and practical skills in decision making. (6 CEUs)

Harm Reduction BASICS for Peers (developed by Voices of Hope, Inc.) – This 1-day (6 hour) online training provides a basic understanding of Harm Reduction principles and practices. The training will provide Peer support techniques to reduce the harm of drug use and risky behaviors to promote intervention, prevention and access to health care. Online option available. (6 CEUs)

Introduction to Outreach for Peers (developed by Voices of Hope, Inc.) – As a result of this 1-day (3 hour) online training, participants will learn the meanings of Harm Reduction and Outreach, identify different types of outreach, identify the meaning of Culture and it’s importance relating to outreach, learn skills to use on outreach and learn about safety during outreach. (3 CEUs)

Mentoring & Education for Peer Recovery Specialists (developed by the University of Maryland Training Center) – This 1-day (6 hour) online training reviews the role of a role model/mentor, explores boundaries and identifies Peer drift into clinical roles. The course reviews the components of modeling and supporting healthy relationships. Effective communication skills are identified and practiced. (6 CEUs)

Motivational Interviewing for Peer Recovery Specialists (developed by Voices of Hope, Inc.) – this 1-day (3 hour) online training will give the knowledge, tools and skills to apply motivational interviewing principles and strategies for promoting change in an individual’s recovery process. (3 CEUs)

Our Stories Have Power (developed by Faces & Voices of Recovery) – this 1-day (3 hour) groundbreaking messaging training will sharpen skills as recovery communicators, learning how to tell our own recovery story with a purpose. (3 CEUs)

Professionalism Basics for Peers (developed by Voices of Hope, Inc.) – this 1-day (3 hour) online training provides the basic instructions for entering the Peer profession: professional conduct, dress, etiquette, time keeping, communication and expectations are reviewed. (3 CEUs)

Public Health Literacy (developed by Voices of Hope, Inc) – this 1-day (3 hour) online training focuses on the concepts of public health and the importance of language regarding health literacy. (3 CEUs)

Recovery Coach Academy (developed by Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery) – this 5-day (15 hour) online intensive training academy focuses on providing individuals with the skills need to guide, mentor and support anyone who would like to enter into or sustain long-term recovery from an addiction to alcohol or other drugs.  Training prepares participants by helping them to actively listen,  ask really good questions, and discover and manage their own stuff. (30 CEUs – CPRS Core Course)

Recovery Coaching the Harm Reduction Pathway (developed by the LeMire Group) – This 3-day (15 hour) online training utilizes adult learning theory concepts and modalities to address knowledge, attitudes, practices, access to resources, and coaching skills. As this training explores sensitive topics, its design and delivery are highly trauma-informed. (18 CEU’s)

Regrounding our Response: Drug User Health Framework (developed by the Maryland Department of Health) – in this 1-day (3 hour) online training, participants will learn more about how stigma impacts health, review key harm reduction strategies and protective factors for infectious disease, and how to apply a drug user health framework in their organization (3 CEUs)

Regrounding our Response: Medications for Addictions Treatment (MAT) as Overdose Prevention (developed by the Maryland Department of Health) – this 1-day (3 hour) online training provides an understanding of medications for opioid use disorder and how they can improve lives, review how medications can prevent overdose death, and discuss how stigma creates barriers to effective treatment. (3 CEUs)

Regrounding our Response: Stages of Change (developed by Dr. DiClemente for the Maryland Department of Health) – this 1-day (3 hour) online course provides an understanding of how intentional behavior change happens, how to support people through the process of change and the importance of providing interventions that are appropriate for the stage each person is in. (3 CEUs)

Sexual Health Basics (developed by Voices of Hope, Inc.) – this 1-day (3 hour) online course provides an understanding of sexual health, STI’s and connecting individuals with testing and health care. (3 CEUs)

Sexual Health in Recovery (developed by the Maryland Department of Health) – this 9 week, 90 minute each session, in person course is an opportunity for participants to better understand their own sexual history and behavioral patterns. Peers will learn to talk about sex without judgement, understand sex functioning and boundaries in recovery, and identify factors for healthy relationships in recovery. Peers will identify risky behaviors for HIV and infectious diseases and learn prevention techniques. (13 CEUs)

Trauma Informed Care for Peer Recovery Specialists – Building the Basics (developed by the University of Maryland Training Center) – This 1-day (6 hour) introductory training for Peer Recovery Specialists will provide a foundation of trauma-informed care knowledge and skills needed to work with recovering individuals who are currently experiencing trauma or in the past. (6 CEUs)

Wellness and Recovery Action Plan® or WRAP® (developed by the Copeland Center) – 8 – 12 sessions where individuals learn to use WRAP® through a peer-led and peer-engaged group process. This personalized wellness and recovery system is born out of and rooted in the principle of self-determination. WRAP® is a wellness and recovery approach that helps people to: 1) decrease and prevent intrusive or troubling feelings and behaviors; 2) increase personal empowerment; 3) improve quality of life; and 4) achieve their own life goals and dreams.

Working Wellness for Peer Recovery Specialists (developed by Voices of Hope, Inc.) – this 1-day (3 hour) online course will help Peer Recovery Specialists recognize what wellness at work means for them and their organizations and how to achieve and maintain wellness in the workplace. (3 CEUs)
