Community Health Worker (CHW) Interest Meeting

July 7, 2022 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Free
Are you working towards your Certified Peer Recovery Specialist credential?  Are you waiting for the recovery time requirement?  Voices of Hope is offering you the  opportunity to become trained and Certified as a Maryland Community Health Worker while you are working towards the CPRS credential.  VoH Certification is no cost to the student, but space is limited and you will need to apply.  Please join us in an informational kick off virtual meeting on on Thursday, July 7th at 3:00 pm on Zoom to learn more about the program.  Please register here:  Community Health Worker (CHW) Interest Meeting.
A Community Health Worker (CHW) is a frontline public health worker who is a trusted member of, or has an unusually close understanding of the community served. This trusting relationship enables a CHW to serve as a link to health and social services and the community to help individuals access services and improve the quality and cultural competence of service delivery. A CHW also builds individual and community capacity by increasing health knowledge and self‐sufficiency through a range of activities such as outreach, community education, providing information to support individuals in the community, social support, and advocacy.
Community health workers go by many titles, depending on where they work, who they work for, and what they do. Common titles include promotores(as) de salud, health coach, community health advisor, community health coach, lay health advocate, family advocate, community health care worker, health educator, liaison, promoter, outreach worker, patient navigator, health interpreter, public health aide, community health representative, outreach specialist, and more.
Voices of Hope understands the need for CHWs especially in the recovery field, so we have developed a program that is accredited by the State of Maryland that will help increase the workforce of Community Health Workers in the State of Maryland.  Individuals who are seeking the Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) credential may find that the CHW Credential is a worthwhile endeavor, as many of the CHW courses are also approved for CPRS CEUs.  Please review the attached flyer for more information, attend our kick off meeting or check out our website here:  https://voicesofhopemaryland.org/community-health-worker-certification/
Please see the attached Flyer for more information and we invite you to join us on Thursday, July 7th at 3:00 pm on Zoom to learn more about the program.  You can register for this event here:  Community Health Worker (CHW) Interest Meeting
